I have been waiting a few months now to crack open my business toolbox and share the PR strategies below with you, but before we dive into them, how about we talk for just a few more sentences about you…
If you’re a business owner, entrepreneur or expert of any kind you do something professionally that has the possibility to make people’s lives better, easier, less stressful, healthier, more fun…you get it. And here’s the thing, the more people hear about what you do and the more people can access your expertise and message, the more lives you can improve, while growing your business at the same time.
So how do you get yourself out there? Some of you pitch golden nuggets about your expertise to the press. Others share it in blog posts. Sometimes you get digital applause from your readers by way of social media shares and eyeballs on your website. Other times you get super-fast responses from the press. But let’s be honest, those times can be pretty rare, right?
I’m not here to help you through those times. I’m here to help you with the times when all you’re getting is crickets in terms of readership and responses. I’m also here to help you get back in the game if you’ve got a case of writer’s block or you’re maxed out in terms of idea-generating and you just wish someone would just hand you a blog or pitch angle that is going to wow the press and your readers. The kind of post that people share. The kind of pitch that people open.
Oh hiiiiiiiiii! I’m that someone. And today I’ve got not one, but five pre-made story angles that you can use right now to create a blog post or pitch to the press that will pique the interest of whoever is on its receiving end. Not only that, I also gave you at least three examples of how each of these angles can be applied to real life businesses! Each of these ideas is eye-catching and creates a sense of I-really-need-to-know-more-about-this-topic and even better? They’re evergreen. That means they’re timeless, and you can use them anytime of year. You can even use them regularly for content creation, and simply change the topic you’re covering.
Dive into these seductive story lines and start attracting people to your blogs and emails like bees to honey and tweens to One Direction.
Strategy #1
Want THIS? Do THAT?
Getting what we want in life is often due to a cause and effect situation. Put simply: if you do this, you’ll get that. If you want this, you have to do that. In this pitching strategy you’re going to help fill in the “this” and “that” for people, sharing what they need to do in order to receive their desired outcome. It should go without saying that whatever you’re revealing should be something you’re qualified to talk about, whether it’s a lesson or tip from your industry, or insight into from the world of entrepreneurship in general. This is hands down one of my favorite story angles for experts and entrepreneurs because it can be customized for any type of expert or business, and like all of these strategies today, it’s evergreen, and it’s a intriguing story angle to share with both the press and your blog!
Sample 1 – Want Strong Bones, Eat These Foods Every Day.
Sample 2 – Want Happy Children? Do These 4 Things With Them Every Week.
Sample 3 – Want Your Business to Thrive? Discuss the Following Topics with Your Employees Once a Month.
Strategy #2
What to Do Before You…
In the spirit of “always be prepared” this story angle gives people the impression that they better do whatever it is you’re telling them to do before they go grocery shopping, go on a vacation or do whatever it is that you’re advising them to prepare for. It’s the type of story that people don’t want to pass over because they don’t want to experience whatever result could occur if they “don’t do this before they do that”. It also evokes a sense or urgency (which you can adjust depending on what topic you pick to cover), and urgency is good in these situations, because it leads to emails getting opened more often, readers to your blog, press stories getting booked and an overall increase in interest in what you have to say. All good things, so give this strategy a whirl!

Strategy #3
You’re Doing Something Without Realizing It!
Could it be possible that you are doing something without even realizing it? Could that something be negatively impacting your life or well being? Let’s hope not! How can you figure out if you are? The press will help you find out if you’re doing “it” through TV segments, blog posts and articles featuring experts like you.
Another great evergreen angle to pitch the press, when you use this strategy it’s your job to pinpoint what advice you can give someone that will help them stop doing [fill in the blank here] which they may just be doing without even realizing it. You will be their savior! If you are stuck, try to work backwards with this pitch. Think of some tips or expert advice you can share, and think of what problem or behavior it solves. This is the “thing” they are doing without realizing it, and you now have the cure!
